Buy Yankee candles to support the France/Italy travelers!  Between now and July 17, you can purchase Yankee candles through our fundraiser without paying more than you would in the store.  There are a lot of opportunities for gift giving between now and mid-July. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, housewarming gifts, weddings, and teacher gifts – or any random day you want to do something nice for someone. Yankee candles make great gifts—and the company has a lot more than just candles.

If you are interested, please see the Yankee Candle Sale flyer for details—it has an embedded link to our fundraiser site, or you can go directly to

https://www.yankeecandlefundraising.com and enter our group number (990077595). If you know a student who is going on the trip, please enter his/her name at checkout so the right student’s account is credited. Don’t know a traveler? Not a problem—all undesignated funds will be shared among all of the students.

If you have questions about the sale, please contact Christa Daugherty at cdaugherty@bigspring.k12.pa.us.

Attention Class of 2019!

Dawg Day for all members of the Class of 2019 will be Tuesday, August 18th from 1:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the high school commons (the big glassy area behind the flag pole in the bus parking lot).  Parents are asked to join us from 6;30 to 7:30 p.m. to receive an orientation on critical High School topics.

Dawg Day has been designed to make your transition from the Middle School to the High School a smooth one.

Activities for the Day:

  • Receive a copy of your class schedule… EARLY!
  • Tours of the building and grounds!
  • Access to/practice with your future locker!
  • Meet with high school teachers and learn about the classes you’ll be taking!
  • Learn about clubs and after-school activities available at the high school!
  • Games and contests in the high school gym and auditorium!
  • Dinner served up in the cafeteria lunch line!
  • A freshman-only pep rally in the gym!
  • Freshman laptops may be distributed after parent orientation!

Transportation:  If you can't arrange for someone to drive you to Dawg Day, a bus can come and pick you up and a bus stop will be arranged near you.  Transportation home will not be provided, so when your parent/guardian arrives to join you in the evening you may return with him/her.

Cost:  In order to receive a catered meal and your own DAWG DAY T-shirt, we are asking that all students submit $5.00 with the permission form by Friday, June 5th.  Please contact the High School Office (776-2434) if the $5.00 fee poses difficulty.

The information and registration form is attached.

All cafeteria debt must be paid in full by the end of the school year.  Beginning Monday, May 18, students in grades 6 -12 are not permitted to charge any cafeteria items if their lunch account is negative.  Once the debt has been paid in full, cafeteria privileges will be restored.

Suicide Prevention Night at the Ballpark
Support suicide prevention in Pennsylvania with our second annual Suicide Prevention Night at the Ballpark. The Pennsylvania Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative (PAYSPI) and the PA Adult/Older Adult Suicide Prevention Coalition will once again partner with the Harrisburg Senators for a special suicide prevention night on Friday, June 12.  Also, there will be a Suicide Prevention Night with the Phillies on Friday, June 26. Come out and be a presence to support suicide prevention. In addition to great baseball, the winning submissions for the 2015 PAYSPI youth suicide PSA contest will be on display at both games.   Our own Big Spring team of Libby Anderson, Starr Snyder, and Kevin Brobst produced a 60 second video and won 2nd place in this competition.  You may purchase your DISCOUNT tickets at www.payspi.org by clicking on the baseball slider.

14-15 Secondary Chromebook Initiative

The Big Spring School District is launching an exciting new learning opportunity for its secondary students this year.  Every student in grades 6 -12 will be issued a Chromebook for his/her exclusive use throughout high school.  The purpose of this initiative is to fully engage students and create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.
